In 1567, the bridge was rebuilt once again and was designed by the famous architect Ammannati. The bridge was now wider and more substantial, with a central span that measured approximately 90 meters. The bridge became one of the main thoroughfares for trade and commerce in Florence, as it was the only bridge that connected the city center with the Oltrarno neighborhood. In the late 19th century, the Santa Trinita Bridge was once again reconstructed, this time with the use the original stone because the night between 3-4 August 1944, the bridge was destroyed by the German soldiers during the IIWW. The new bridge was designed by the architect following the original project made by Ammannati, and was completed in 1958. The bridge was now even wider, with a central span that measured 120 meters. The new design was able to withstand the power of the Arno River, and the bridge became a symbol of the city's strength and resilience. Today, the Santa Trinita Bridge remains one of the most important landmarks in Florence. It is still used as a major thoroughfare, and is also a popular tourist attraction.
