Real Florentine chocolate

If you want real Florentine chocolate (not just touristy sugar bombs), these are the places I’d send someone depending on what kind of chocolate experience they want:

For the best overall artisan chocolate:Vestri

Vestri Web Address: Borgo degli Albizi, 11r, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy Phone: +390552340374

Probably the strongest choice if you care about quality. They’re serious bean-to-bar makers and known for using cacao from their own plantation. Their gianduja, pralines, and chocolate gelato are excellent. A lot of locals and food writers consistently rank it among Florence’s top chocolate spots. (Firenze Made in Tuscany)

For historic Florentine hot chocolate:Rivoire

Rivoire Web Address: P.za della Signoria, 5/R, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy Phone: +39055214412

Classic old-school Florence. Right on Piazza della Signoria, famous since the 1800s. Their thick Italian hot chocolate is the move, especially on a colder evening. You’re partly paying for the atmosphere and location, but it’s iconic. (Firenze Made in Tuscany)

For a hidden artisan gem:Ballerini

Ballerini Web Address: r, Borgo Ognissanti, 132, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy Phone: +39055215094

Less hyped by tourists, more loved by people who actually live in Florence. Handmade pralines and a more authentic neighborhood feel. Great if you want something genuinely local. (The Florentine)

For modern chocolate lovers:DolceForte - Cioccolato Firenze

DolceForte - Cioccolato Firenze Web Address: Via della Scala, 21, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy Phone: +39055219116

Small artisan spot with creative flavors and beautiful craftsmanship. Excellent if you’re looking for gift-worthy chocolate.

For reliable indulgence in the center:Venchi Cioccolato e Gelato or Venchi GelatoNot uniquely Florentine, but honestly very good if you’re nearby and want instant chocolate satisfaction.

Old-school Florentine tradition:Migone

Migone Web Address: Via Santa Elisabetta, 7r, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy Phone: +39055214004

Historic confectionery, elegant and classic.

My honest ranking if I had one afternoon in Florence:

  1. Vestri

  2. Ballerini

  3. Rivoire (for hot chocolate + setting)

  4. DolceForte - Cioccolato Firenze

If you’re creating content for your Florence audience, Vestri + Rivoire makes the strongest “best chocolate in Florence” pairing: one for artisan quality, one for historical experience.
